Dr. Oz’ High-Energy Diet – Tasty Menu Plan

The following menu is based on the doctor’s recommendations. It’s created and adapted by Neva Cochran, R.D.

You’ll notice in this high-energy diet has lots of whole grains. According to Dr. Oz processed grains trigger all the same fattening reactions has sugar.

The magazine’s advice: Drink as much water as you like. Add low-cal/sugar-free extras (spices, Splenda, coffee) in moderation. In general, aim for foods and brands with 4 g. of sugar or less per serving (except dairy, fruit, dark chocolate). Always get a doctor’s okay before you try a new plan.

  • Breakfast
    4 scrambled egg whites, hot sauce to taste
    1 slice whole-wheat toast
    1/2 banana
    1 cup plain or lite yogurt
  • Snacks choose one midmorning and another midafternoon
    1 cup plain or lite yogurt with 2/3 cup fruit
    8 whole-grain tiny twist pretzels or
    1 cup raw vegetables, 1/2 cup low-fat cottage cheese with herbs to taste as dip
  • Lunch – Dr. Oz’s chopped salad
    4 oz. cooked salmon, turkey or chicken breast, 3 cups salad greens and assorted vegetables, 6 chopped walnuts, 1 Tbs. balsamic vinegar and 1 1/2 tsp. olive oil
  • Dinner
    4 oz. roasted chicken breast
    1 sweet potato
    1 cup broccoli with red pepper flakes, garlic
  • Evening Treat
    3 cups popcorn with canola spray, seasonings to taste
